A Living Memorial to Earl Ma
Earl Ma Sportsmanship Award
Okay, folks, I am in talks with the Snap-on Stars of Karting presented by IRL to award an Earl Ma Sportsmanship Award to deserving drivers in their series. Right now I'm fleshing out details but I'm working on saving up some cash from my business to award a dollar figure ($100 per race, or maybe $500 at season's end).
If it works out this season I'm thinking maybe having an award trophy done. Ideally it'd be a 76-type orange ball on a trophy stand or something. But that's only if I can afford to do it (or find someone to partner with me to do it).
Anyway, I think Earl would appreciate this since he and Gidley did so much to promote karting in Hawaii, and having it be a sportsmanship award really speaks to what Earl was all about.

- UPDATE: May 20, 2009 - The Earl Ma Award is unfortunately on indefinite hold while the current uncertainty around the Stars of Karting/Championship Karting International debacle sorts itself out. I don't know right now what Stars' future plans are but I'm very hesitant to work with CKI because of how all of this has gone down. That said, I'm still looking for a way to get this done and I'll keep everyone updated on my progress.

- Thank you for the support! I'll definitely contact you ASAP and get you both in the loop. I'm thinking of targeting the awarding of the award for the end of the season - or maybe at the PRI Classic (since I know Gidley will be there and he might like to see it given out). In terms of the award itself, I think I've pretty much settled on giving it to the driver that the Stars officials deem is the most determined and most willing to help out his fellow competitors and who is a good presence in the paddock. Kind of like Earl, you know?

Please let me know what you need.
